Did a degree in philosophy while deciding what to do with my life. Being an atheist in a college run by Jesuits wasn't exactly easy. There were many students on both sides of the fence at that college, but plenty on the other side who were as close to fundamentalists as I've met. Really scary people. They put me off religious people for a long time. I have recovered somewhat and gained some perspective since then. As others have said, if it gives you strength when you need it, then it can't be all bad.

I used to say to these fundamentalists, that they do what the bible tells them, whether or not its right, I do what is right, no matter what the bible says. The bible really needs a good hard editing to weed out some of the non-sense in there. Who has the guts to rewrite the word of God though?

That was a great video Predator.:thumbup1:

Some people think God is an outsized, light-skinned male with a long white beard, sitting on a throne somewhere up there in the sky, busily tallying the fall of every sparrow. Others—for example Baruch Spinoza and Albert Einstein—considered God to be essentially the sum total of the physical laws which describe the universe. I do not know of any compelling evidence for anthropomorphic patriarchs controlling human destiny from some hidden celestial vantage point, but it would be madness to deny the existence of physical laws

Sums it up nicely:001_smile:

I got lent this book by a mate yesterday. Yes, it's a Christian book blah blah blah but worth a read. Try to ignore the lingo and just get with the main drive of the subject. I'm not personally suggesting I preach this stuff, just fuel for the fire! Pun intended!

In fairness I've not read all of this but I'm now a God fearing man who is ready to repent all my sins:001_smile:

What an absolute load of rubbish. Purposely designed to strike fear into the hearts of anyone who so lets it and ready to sign up to the next evangelical tour and probably donate money to 'the cause'. Reminds me of something. Oh yes....The Bible.

I've thought on this forgiving people their sins. It does make sense - you forgive people their sins for yourself not for them - i.e. so you don't waste your time filling yourself with anger and hate for others.... it makes good sense really.

I particularly liked a quote in a Joe Abercombie book:

'Forgive your enemies..... after they have been hanged'

A slightly tougher stance!
