Nethertheless, I think many are put off from posting because of the wording of replies. True, we read them in the defensive mode, and sometimes when we re-read we get a different view.

But there are one or two frequent posters on here who are basically bullies, and determined to shoot others down. Their wording is often impolite and dissrespectful.

Some feel it neccesary to correct others publicly on spelling or grammer so that they can feel superior and 'score points'.

Although many posts represent points of view which are inaccurate and need correcting, there is surely a way to point out the errors without resort to words such as 'nonsense' and 'bullsh#t' intended to demean the OP.

There are a few 'moderators' who in my opinion, are less than respectful and should consider the example they are setting.

I couldn't agree more these same frequent posters often giving the wrong advice and impression to new members, maybe it would help to have more detailed description of a persons experience for instance if they are posting in training forum are they anything to do with training. We have a system where a junior member may be giving advice to a senior member and this can easily influence new members opinions.

Interesting feedback here, particularly on some of the mods approach. without defending anyone, at the end of the day we are first and foremost, tree guys. We all do the job, and most of us have done it for some time. This doesn't mean we know it all, but what I mean is we are not "professional" moderators. We give our time to try and help things run smoothly. But as I said, we are ordinary folk, and sometimes our opinions may be strong on certain topics. As Dean said, there is a report button if you aren't happy with a posting, whoever made it, mod or not, and it will be looked into and acted upon. This is everyone's forum, and we want everyone to feel it is theirs to use, after all without active members the site would die.

Being "shot down" for making a comment is unfortunately par for the course, I think most of us have experienced this, but it's part of active discussion, and occasionally people will have differing opinions on a topic, that's how we learn and move forward.

Thanks for your replies here so far, I'll take on board constructive comments and see how we can make things better for you all.

Don't forget, if you feel someone is offensive or rude, report it, that what we mods are here for. That and the beer

If you see advice given that is wrong why do you not correcting them, giving a link to your information if you have one.

This is a discussion forum, most things come down to opinion, not fact or legislation.

Even being in the trade all this time I am still learning as new methods and equipment are shown. Chatting Room no idea on that?

Some of the pictures on trees, bugs, fungi are very impressive and interesting. (I should remember to take a camera with me to work)

Don't know how the folks running the site manage to cope with all those different sections and postings.
