Rip off prices depend on your set -up.

A company with 3 vans, unimogs, yard, 10 employees etc should be making a fortune everyday because of there overheads. they might quote 1/2 days work for £800 because its what they need to stay in business...and they do get the work. I think its fine if they make that much.

Guys who quote £150 for half days work is ok if they are just by themselfs with a trailer and no chipper. but what about fuel? disposel fees and all other overheads? if you business grows then £150 for 1/2 a day won't last... give it couple years and you will be charging double that for 1/2 days work.

I was out giving a quote for a little repolard on one small tree and a ivy removal on another nothing big . As I told her the price she went rather pale so I said what's up

It turned out she paid £ 800 quid to a guy to do the job 2 years ago it took him half a day .

I went as White as she did when she told me I just could not believe she actually paid the chap all that money .

I really felt for her, but really pleased she now knows and won't ever get caught out again like that

Gave a quote a few months ago, take down to ground level 5 30 ft thin conifers, chip and remove, short day for me and my two groundies, gave quote and the guy looked stunned, it was one of those, oh well moments untill he said the guy he'd just had round had said £1400, or £1200 for cash, him and the boys could do it now if he wanted, lol. I quoted £400 and felt bad then we were all down by 3. Endless tea and bacon sarnies in the morn and same at lunch.
