The boss bought a new bar for the 064, it was on 3/8 sprocket, he's now changed it to .404 and a bigger bar. The bar is really weird, it's not a stihl rollomatic, it just had stihl written on it and it get's really big at the end and with no end sprocket.

Hope that description makes sense. What i'm trying to find out is why is it such a weird shape and should he have got just a normal bar??

It sounds like you have got a hard nosed bar . It has no nose sprocket but the end is stellite faced to be hard wareing . I personally don't like them but it means you can use any chain that is the right gauge for the bar depending on whats on your rim on the power head . 3/8 .404 or what ever .

What makes you say that?

Back in the day duromatics were common as, and aside from the power issues they are perfectly useable

They still use them back home in really sandy conditions, like on skid sites in Coastal forests. The Sand in the Bark is bad enough, but it wears out the Tip Bearings quickly.

Try running the chain a bit slacker than normal, winding the oiler up and tipping some bar lube over the Bar and Chain if it really heats up.
