034 is a saw to resurect especially when you have the exhaust ported .

So the little pumps you sometimes see on the saws next to the rear handle are for the user to pump extra oil into the system? even though it is an automatic oiler?

ive only seen it on the 3120s so dunno what other saws its on, but yer its automatic oiler but u can pump extra into the system by manually doing it, not alot of point though if im honest cant notice it really.

On big lumps I always put a bit of extra chain oil on the bar manually . Makes for easier cutting imo:001_smile:

084 s have the extra oil on and its noticable on mine when your in big stuff.

i run a sprocket nose 30" on the 088 most of the time, but do use the 48" sprocket nose when we've got some really big lumps! Never used anything else but i think its a good saw!

Stihl do a 47" solid nose bar and yet as everyone says the nose gets hot and saps power.... yet they have a 59" Rollamatic bar with a sprocket nose (it is available but harder to get). This is more or less the same price as the 47"...

 

So why not make a 48" sprocket nose bar?

 

Oregon do make longer bars but currently the longest available in the UK is 36".... The reason they don't import longer bars into the UK? - because apparently there is no market for them :confused1:

 

Cannon make a full range up to 60" and are good if pricey. They seem a little thinner than GB.

 

GB make bars up to 87" based on their harvester bars. They are heavier than the cannon equivalent. Trouble is you need to buy in around 30 a time in each bar length and the exchange rate at the mo makes them expensive....

Rob, whats the best big bar circa 50-60" for rigidity when cutting horizontal?

Alright Josh - I think the GB bars prob have the least sag. There does seem to be much more floppiness after 50" i.e. 50" wilts a bit but the 60"+ wilt a lot!

 

 

At some point I'll do a stiffness test (which I'll look forward to ) and line the bars up supported at one end.
