Those growths are really odd, they look the pnuemataphors of a swamp tree.

Are they alive/green Mario or completely dead?

.

Best I can tell they are alive, as is some other tissue across the front.

They remind me of the shape of the tiny Lichens called British Soldiers, but gigantically bigger and woody.

Stayed at the Curly Redwood Lodge last weekend.

Found some lovely Douglas Fir trees in the Coast Redwood forest last weekend. Definitely going back to the same location to head deeper into the park and see what's there to discover.

Each photo attached is a different tree. The biggest was about 8 ft. diameter. Or 2.43 meters wide.

These were just minutes from each other. One of the richest pockets I've found in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park for huge Douglas Fir trees.

I've been following this thread for now some time & have loved the photos & stories.

Ive been to East coast USA before but have always wanted to goto the West coast.

Well i've only gone and talked the wife into a 2-3 week trip next year.

So im looking for inspiration & ideas from everyone with info, especially Mario & Taupotreeman.

The outline plan is to fly to Seattle, hire a car & drive south & end up in Vegas for flight home with Oregon, San fransico, LA etc in between.

If you have any help or tips on car hire etc please let me know.

Cheers, Michael
