I think this thread can be easily concluded,

 

Mr "Log Supplier" is getting a great price for his load of logs - no question

 

He has the equivalent of 6 of his builders bags, which he calls cubes, although almost everyone agrees are not "cubic meter".

 

Most postings here are making the point that to misquote volumes to customers can be harmfull to the industry and overloading a truck can get you into trouble with the authorities.

 

But, at the end of the day, if he is happy and his customers are happy, then that's great, let's just hope he doesn't get stopped by the highway authorities.

I would only ever sell wood by the "bag" or "load", if you go down the road of quantifying the amount of wood, you are leaving your self open to prosecution.

 

I know someone who felt they were getting short measure from their coal merchant.

 

They rang Trading Standards and they came and swept out the coal bunker before a delivery, they then weighed the delivered coal and sure enough the amount on the invoice did not match the derived amount.

 

He was prosecuted and had to pay a hefty fine, plus they would be breathing down his neck for many years to come.

 

If you state a volume or weight be sure your accurate.

 

One of your competitors could get his mum to place an order and ring T/S.

Excellent thread btw,14 pages on a subject I would have thought would warrant 2 or 3. I'm sure we've all, at some stage, been slightly "blind' to the laws and legislation of this Septic Isle. Until we're pulled over and checked that is. The thing is, check the plating of your vehicles, if in doubt and need further info, contact VOSA for clarification. I do the same, i sell by the dumpy bag or by the load, i never quote a weight as i carn't weigh it. I do make sure that the bags a brim full and you get a GOOD load, might do myself out of a few logs over the year but i dont have any problems.

To put this thead into context i have just sold an oak trunk 6 cube and the farm matbro would not lift it and if you put it on a transit i think it would colapse.

It had to happen...

 

I've just come off the phone from a lady requesting some logs from me, I have been recommended to her after she bought 2 "ton" (£180) of supposed seasoned logs from someone and she said they will not burn at all even after several attempts.

 

When she has phoned this guy to complain he was very rude and said, "Well no-one else has complained."

 

I am going over next week to test these logs for her, but I suspect they will be as green as they come. Her main concern was if her flue becamed blocked burning unseasoned.

 

Looks like I will be gaining another regular buyer of my logs.

Logger sorry metres. As for wieght it is the same as how long is a piece of string. oak is more than ash ash is more than willow ect.but at a guess my trunk is about 2 ton a cubic metre.
