How to move 42' long sawlogs.

Any ideas welcome here.

I have to fell about 25 doug firs, whic at 42' length need to have a top diameter of 16", so they are going to be fairly lumpy. they will get skidded to ride-side; the ride itself has just been put in and is massive, in preparation for alot more forestry (nowt to do with me BTW), and the final destination is only about 500yds up the road. I have had a few ideas, including even dragging up the road!!!!! However even though it is a tiny back road that rarely sees any traffic, this is not an option.

Any ideas more ideas, wacky or otherwise?

Lift one end onto an old axle & ratchet strap it on, other end on your skidder winch, home brew trailer, job done...

thats a fair lump of wood Tom, and you have to keep them in 1 piece!!

 

you either do it ligit and get a hiab in and 12' can hang over the back or you do it yehaa style, a 100hp plus tractor, strop it onto back arms, lift and steer with the independent brakes if need be.

 

ideally big tractor, mog and a winch to get it off the deck and then push, roll into place.

Tie the butt end to the skidders butt plate, then get a JCB with some chains to lift up the smaller end and proceed slowly up the road.

What's the ground like? Obviously not like old growth logging but big timber nonetheless and as above, wouldn't wish it on you but you might have to scrape some layouts for the trees?

 

Are you topping them first?
