Rope Wrench feedback

Recommended Posts

Ali tether like a handle that has a ascender attached to the RW. Engage for Rope walker ascent then have a way to lock it/disengage for working and descending. Anytime you need to go back up just engage the ascender. RW becomes a handled ascender as well as a friction device. One less tool on the belt!

Johnski, you inbox is full so I'll reply to your pm here.

I'm glad it arrived.

With a stick and some electrical tape you could cobble together a half decent tether. Also with one of those stiffies from Honey Bros you could incorporate the thimble by threading a couple of plastic zip ties through the thimble and top of the tether.

I don't know how long you've been working DRT but it took me a couple of weeks to start feeling comfortable with it all the time. Persevere and keep thinking of redirects. If you work through the tree like a DRT climber you'll find it bloody hard work and find no advantage.

I use a short Lyon sling with a Revolver and a long Prussik loop with one of those odd Skylotec karabs for my redirects, if a natural isn't easier.

My Oak trees job was an SRT heaven.

I look forward to your posts on the RW Feedback thread.

All the best mate.

Al

I'm a little late coming to the party on this one. I've had the rope wrench for a few months now but never really got round to using it. I had a reduction to do today on a very large and dense Yew tree which would have involved endless up and down work if i had been climbing Ddrt. SRT made so much sense on this tree. The freedom of being able to go absolutely anywhere I wanted in the tree without the need to plan my route was fantastic. I haven't felt so free since June 14th 2000!

Will I adopt it for all my tree work? No, but will certainly have it in the bag for those odd times it makes more sense :thumbup1:

Why not? I use DRT 5% of the time because it makes more sense.

Where is the after photo?:thumbup1:

Unless I come up with an easier set up its just too much faffing around for me, setting anchor point etc. I don't want to have to advance on Ddrt on trees that require alternating flip line and rope for access, only to get to the top and have to switch to a difference system.

I can't see myself using it for takedowns either. I think Ddrt is still a more fluid method for me personally. I may change my mind in future, who knows
