Rope Wrench feedback

Recommended Posts

Its all good as long as you get the angles right :) Been trying to do all my pruning of a base anchor with a few false redirects as possible and a prussic for getting back through skinny redirects. I did snap a little bit the other day though heading up on a base anchor. Just a pinkie sized twig and dropped into the crotch below about 1ft down..meh

Pinkie sized bit, are we talking finger sized pinkie or Adam Bourne type pinkie as that could knock your teeth out. Are you using the Prussik to lift it out of the skinny crotch so it's easier to climb back into?

Yes chaps, climb up the the skinny redirect. In order to keep your weight in the rope to get back through without breaking bits, 6wrap prussic on the line the other side of the fork. Lanyard into that prussic and release the tension on your wrench. Pull the system up through the redirect, clip back in and lower yourself on your lanyard so the wrench takes the weight again. Voila, skinny secondary redirect passed. I usually bang in one bomber redirect on one side of the tree then go out over the tips and drop through a second skinner one further out when trying to get out on the tips for reductions etc.

Oh and base anchoring on pruning jobs so i dont have to faff about setting up a retrievable top anchor and its always so easy to pull out when base anchored.. Work one side of the tree and drop down a nice route to create some strong angles. Then head down tie the other end off at the base and climb up the other side. Saves a bit of messing about.
