Fiat Panda 4x4 can tow 900kg, A Skoda Yeti 4x4 can tow 2000kg. Do VW import the Caddy 4motion to the UK?

Im not sure, im hoping though as its quality!

if your vehicles gvw and the weight of the trailer combined exceed 3500kg you need a ol. its nothing to do with laden -unladen, transit at 3500kg trailer can weigh nil kg, landy gvw 3050, trailer can weigh 450kg. 1kg over you need ol. train weight etc is neither nor anymore.

I wonder how many of us wil be driving round with nearly empty fuel tanks in the chipper, top us as required, and get lots of really healthy condensation build up in the tank.

An its the plated weight of the trailer not what is actually on it when you're stopped so a Van towing a normal 3.5t gross weight ifor williams is nicked everytime.

I gather from talking with a disturbutor that you can get your trailer "down rated" the same as you can with a lorry. And it is a simple as applying to them and they give you a new shinny plate to rivet on with the new lower weight and they amend their records.

No need for all the faffing around, just buy your own plate from the bay and off you go

Oh yes - still a busy NPTC centre. I don't get involved with that side of the business though - its my other half Sarah that runs and manages The Construction and Landscape Training Company Ltd, Belfast, Northern Ireland The contracting side is my thing.

" Abolition of the small trailer exemption

Paragraph 3 of Schedule 1 of the Goods Vehicle (Licensing of Operators) Act 1995 exempts from operator licensing a ‘small goods vehicle’ forming part of a vehicle combination (not being an articulated combination) where all the vehicles comprising the combination excluding any ‘small trailer’ have a plated weight not exceeding 3.5 tonnes.

A small trailer is defined under the Act as a trailer with an unladen weight not exceeding 1020kg. This trailer does not need to be included when calculating the 3.5 tonne limit.

However, under the Regulation all the vehicle combination (including any trailer) operating for hire or reward must be included when calculating the weight limit, so the small trailer exemption will be abolished for hire or reward operations from 4 December 2011. However, the small trailer exemption under paragraph 3 of schedule 1 of the Goods Vehicle (Licensing of Operators) Act 1995 will remain in place for operators carrying goods other than for hire or reward."

No a 4x4 will still be exempt as dual purpose. Your chip isn't for hire or reward its part of your work, your chipper cannot carry goods so is fine. The 1050kg unladen weight is for the purpose of the rules they have to set a figure you will still be able to tow it full as long as below the train weight of 7.5 tonne then different rules start. The agricultural/forestry exemptions will still apply but wait and see. For hire and reward seems to be if you carry other peoples goods (which most of us don't) such as furniture, parcels, someone elses horse etc. They are only changing the standard OL licence which most of us were exempt from anyway.

The disco 3 website has a letter from Vosa to Ifor Williams which explains a bit more i put a bit on here earlier.
