Why not weld a hitch to the under carriage directly to spread the weight rather than hang it off the blade? Granted you won't be able to turn as tight but it will stop the digger sitting on its toes with alot of nose weight

Thats quite a good idea, only problem i can see is that undercarriages on 2.5 tonners are only a foot of the ground so the drawbar would be rather low and it would have to be far enough away so you can still slew.

Know what you mean Doobin with towing though, they,re crap at turning but Iv pulled a trailer loaded with stakes out of boggy ground with my mini and it did brilliantly as long as i went in a straight line!

I had no nose weight at all- the trailer was perfectly balanced. Was thinking some nose weight might actually help with traction but I think turning issues would still be the same.

Any more thoughts chaps?

I cant think of any other way to help the turning prob, i tend to just travel in a series of straight lines if towing, skidsteer then set of in the right direction, and so on, bit of a palavor really, also i put the arm at full reach to counteract any balancing issues. clearly it isn't really designed for towing but the ability to comes in handy nevertheless

our quad and homemade timber trailer, was too wet in our sssi woodland for anything bigger. only taking timber out for ourselves so not to worried about the time it took

I'm slightly perplexed Ben, but your timber looks as if it has mastered the art of levitation.....:001_huh:

yeah we left a 30cm gap between timber and trailer floor so we could slide pallet tines straight under and pick up the whole load at once with the fork truck back at the wood heap
