Cedar? Oak, surely! Even the beetle that's been muching on it is a hardwood beetle.

Ideas? Cut the waney edges off to use as frame, few 45 degree angles, a rebate here and there, and mount a mirror in it - & finish it ( but in something other than a dull wax ).

Should sell.

and it's definitely oak.

I just notice wisewood had the same idea..

It is Lebenese Cedar, honestly and yes it did come from a limb. A coffee table sounds good as it is just under 6ft long. Cheers everybody.

Honestly it's oak!

Willing to bet on it as well if you've some odds :001_tongue:

Coffee table would be good and easy to make!

I have just spoken to the guy who removed the storm damaged limb from the Lebonese cedar which my plank comes from. It came from a tree in the Little Ouseburn area of Yorkshire. My boss helped him put it onto the back of the truck.

It's oak. You can see the medullary rays and little pips.

The two men who put the limb onto the back of the truck have at least 40yrs experience as arborists between them and they certainly know the difference between a Cedar and an Oak. It came from a Cedar that was damaged in a storm at The Priory in Nun Monkton, North Yorkshire. I hope this will convince you lot who don't believe me.
