Do you use your local pub?

TBH, I would sooner enjoy a pint (or 5) at home with my wife and kids, than in a pub.

Since the "widget" was invented and draft beer can be enjoyed at home, some pubs were bound to close.

We often go out as a family and enjoy a nice pub meal and a few drinks.

I love pubs. A proper local pub is hard to beat. However, pubs are in a bad shape at the moment in my opinion. So many pubs are run by management companies or large breweries that use lack lustre tenant landlords.

I used to live in Suffolk and can honestly say that on the whole that county has some brilliant pubs - the best I have been in. Having recently moved to Worcester the outlook isn't so bright. I was just commenting to my wife today that Worcester has alot of restaurants and a few bars but not many proper boozers. The 'nightlife' seems a bit chavvy - all I am looking for is a comfy and friendly pub with well kept ale.

Having worked in pubs in the past I often dream about running my own one day...

i'm often down in my local bar..... but then it is my fiancée who runs it!!

its the only commerce in our village and for 10km around. its a food shop, fresh bread depot, postoffice, coffee room and bar all in the one building.

there is only that and the small (26 kids) school that keep the village alive. but i can say its not easy going to try and keep a service in the village and keep people happy and using it. we have to try and keep prices down as much as we can but still with cant keep it anywhere near the price of a supermarket, its almost that expencive from the supplier. the hours are long and i often do a few hours to give her a hand after my days work.

even then, we have craft classes and other activities for adults and the kids of the village and people just do not use it. most of the people that use the shop are the older generation who dont want to drive, some only shop with us, but the younger people prefer to drive between 10 and 20km to pick up a few bits of shopping (which is more expencive when you work out the time wasted and the fuel/car use) though befor we took it on, it was them that where complaining saying there should be something there, just in case they need it! jsut cant win with people.

Not a decent pub in sight over this side of the world. I miss those old country pubs. Roaring fire in winter, good choice of ciders and a decent feed. A place just to chill and pass the time. Here it's mainly sports bars, party pubs and that type of thing. The kind of place I probably would have been keen on for a night out in my younger days but now there's nowhere I know of that I'd be happy to spend a quite night chewing the fat. If I wanted a half decent pub the nearest I can think of is a 200km drive. Back in blighty it was 5 minute walk up the road for your choice of several. Somethings only the Brits can do right.

I have one across the road I have my roast and a couple of pints In on a Sunday... The tuns up the road I visit daily after work with the dog for a couple if pints to unwind a's it has a more spit and saw dust public bar and fitter bar maid, it's an expensive habit but I live by myself no kids and have never been a home drinker, Its the part of the day I enjoy and spend an hour or so unwinding and although I'm reguarly called an alchy I have pointed out I very rarely drink at home , most people I know will do a a bottle of wine at home to them selfs, I just like the company and you never know who is gonna walk in through the door next in your local!the third pub in the village has just been taken over again... Went in there last night for the first time ,every thing was painted White expensive food and all the bar stools have gone, it has a large resterant in the back which every land ford in the last 10 years has failed to fill so I wish them the best of luck although the only thing I like about it now is the Danish and german draught lagers.

I didnt say I agreed with it but the supermarkets have a huge part to play in the demise of the pub.

The shutting down of pubs and of village shops/life in general is down to the consumers NOT the supermarkets.

The power of the consumer rules this world, buying power dictates everything, because the world revolves on the green folding stuff.

Dont blame commercialism and choice, blame community, blame the consumer.

It is on the turn though, people have realised ther eis no service like the local butcher/green grocer and with luck we will see all these businesses survive.

Those cheap goods in the supermarket carry a heavy heavy price.

perhaps people are relising the health issues with drink and they don,t have as much money to waste or people have seen family and friends lives fall to pieces because of drink, plus people sit at home drinking cheap booze and spending time on internet forums! times change, who would of thought all our coal mines, ship yards and heavy industry would close it,s civilisation evolving.
