maximum behind a 7.5 ton is 750kg no double axle trailers either dont know about 6.5 tonner towing a trailer (VOSA wouldnt make it that easy I know).

If you have a pre 97 licence and a 6500kg truck you can tow 1750kg

Vosa don’t make the rules they enforce them

This is all a very dark subject someone once told me if the 7.5 tonner is unladen you can tow a twin axle trailer soon found that to be un-true. When all the pro's and con's are looked at its often worth getting a haulier in and letting them have all the red tape and hassle.

does that include twin axle trailers :confused1:

You can put as many axles as you want under it but all you are doing is reducing payload.

The figures quoted are all about Maximum Authorised Mass (MAM), the number of axles is irrelevant to MAM

Its worth looking at a two vehicle setup, transit tipper+chipper and a landrover or other 4x4 that can tow 3.5 ton. my trailer is 1 ton empty, 3.5ton gross, you won't get all that much more than 2.5 ton on a 7.5 tonner. have your groundy drive one while you take the other. its a very flexible setup.

More like 3500kg payload

It's for all of these reasons and confusion that I got a Unimog. There are pros and cons to every vehicle set up.

I do domestic work and my only regret is getting a U1200 with rear mount chipper and not a bigger Mog with chipper on front. So I could tow a big trailer.

Anyone can drive it, if I trust them. Not too expensive to run. Ag registered advantages. 4x4. Cruises at 45mph, traffic rarely goes faster anyway.

Best truck is the one that suits your needs.

I have a 7.5 tonner mate when you consider you can get 2 ton on a tranny and only 3 ton on a 7.5 tonner I often wonder if what you benefit is worth it.

You have the operators licence blue our orange disc depending whether you hold a c.p.c our carrying other peoples goods on hire our reward. Then test on the vehicle which comes under HGV test station (BALL ACHE). Then 6 weekly checks our 12 depending on your mileage all this then tacho's our log books. But suprisingly at the minute the tax seems pretty cheap!!:confused1::thumbdown::thumbdown:

Please tell which model of tranny will carry 2 ton??????????

The very best you will get is around a 1 ton, but most are less than that.

I know most tranny owners put 2 ton on theirs, but it ain't legal.

Vosa don’t make the rules they enforce them

But it's them them make suggestions about law change so in a way they are responsible for the making of some rules.

I have a full HGV licence and my international CPC and i will steer clear of any equipment that requires to work under those rules.

I hear and i don't know how true it is, that anyone operating any vehicle with a tacho fitted must have a full CPC come April next year. There is a few law changes that come into play come December regarding Nominated Transport Managers.

Think the law change in April if any will will have to do with hire and reward.

It’s an advisory panel, the Police and HA among other are on it as well, they don’t make laws either.
