Well the 254XP has hit a brick wall, air leak traced back to the flywheel side, put my last spare in and it was better on vacuum but not perfect but the pressure check that had been perfect, was now awful - letting out air on the clutch side so got a new seal on order.

 

Started work on the 357XP again, full port job, nice finish on widened inlet and exhaust port, re-profiled uppers and slight mods to the lowers.

 

Two muffler mods and should finish the 357XP soon and the 254XP later in the week.

To me its just a hobby fixing and repairing for people I know, mates of mates etc. I don't advertise or anything but its not hard to see why lawnmower/chainsaw shops get stacked out this time of year.

Everyone wants it done yesterday and would imagine half these people think your going to fix it there and then whilst they wait and think theres is a priority job and will be a 5 minute fix and the shop keeps every known spare for a chainsaw on the shelf. Yet for a good 6 mths of the year they sit them on a shelf or in a shed not touching them.

 

Proper Planning Prevents P*ss Poor Performance and all that and like you say preventive medicine seems to have gone out the window. If these people spent a few minutes cleaning a saw after using it would make a world of difference as I would think half the saws I do are just gunked up carbs.

Mikita cut off saw getting to go ahead today. Started stripping it down ready for the new piston and barrel. It was out of compression so ordered a new one.

 

On looking into the exhaust port the piston is badly scored, after removing he barrel the pot is also badly scored. My guess as it always is with builders tools is not enough oil in fuel.

 

The ring is stuck fast into the groove.

How do you get on with supply of Makita spares Rich?

Never needed to get any but is supply and price ok or does it take a while and/r on the expensive side?

The supply is there. Just have to source it. Gardenkit is normally good. Prices vary a lot I've found. If you go the ebay route.

 

Its some and some. I don't have to hunt a lot for parts really as dont get much in, just one chainsaw and this cutoff saw this year, have got a battery skill saw to look at at some point, no power on motor, the power supply is there but the motor won't spin unless pressure us put on it from the back, so either loose connection or knackerd motor, motors are about 25 quid give or take a coupe, of quid.

 

The pot and piston for the makita that I have found is, about 50 quid. That's a bit more than the stihl ts pot and piston.

An older ms200t being a pain in the arse..... i said on here a month or so ago it was playing up.... re adjusted carb and was ok... started playing up yet again today..... sat at idle then high reving like an air leak etc....

 

also has it ever been known to happen that the carb screws turn themselves?

 

anyhow cant be arsed with it now! its my hedge saw.... pita!
