Decided to have another go at my kusky 357 xp as its not run since sometime during the winter, washed the air filter and dried it reset the carb put new spark plug in and away it went, only problem is after revving it hard a few times it started firing sparks out from right side of engine somewhere and smelt stinking hot before it cut out when put it down noticed it had also chucked what looks like grease out from behind the chain cover, have'nt tried to start it again yet is it sounding terminal or is there a simple fix reason? thanks Ed

Could be worn drum. Could just be a big build up of crud. Take the cover off and have a good look. Clean it up and inspect the areas for wear. Then get some pics up for us to see.

Ride on mower blades are not that critical about balance. Sure, there needs to be roughly the same amount of metal on each side, but a few grams won't really hurt.

Changed a fuel tank on a husky 555 (which appears to be exactly the same as a 550/560) that had part of the handle broken. First newer type husky tank I've changed, nice easy job to be honest.

The most important thing in your case (after sharpening the blades) is to find out why they hit.

Did the timing belt slip on the toothed pullies? If it did it was too slack.

 

Did the timing belt break?

 

Or have the blades sheared the pegs on the blade bosses (if fitted)
