I agree, Steve. There has been a lot of criticism of the needle bearing on the 261, with some people putting the blame on the plastic cage.

TBH, there is nothing at all wrong with the plastic cages as this 361 example shows. The cage is intact but the drum bore, and needles, had worn sufficiently to allow one of the rollers to escape.

Think of it like this.(single, or twin small 4t engines)

The flywheel rotates once per engine rev.

The magnets pass the ignition module (coil) once per rev)

Therefore creating impulse once per rev, therefore sparks every rev.

One spark occurs on the power stroke, and is used.

The other spark occurs on the exhaust stroke and is 'wasted'

 

One impulse per rev will count RPM

 

Thanks for explaining that - never came across that 'wasted spark' term. I see now that anything running off the flywheel is going to be 1 fire every revolution and probably 1 fire every other revolution if points are working off a camshaft not directly off the crankshaft?

My bench is currently restricted and no photography is allowed anywhere near it.:thumbup:

I have a VERY NEARLY finished 019T at the front of my bench, I'm hoping to fire it up tonight when the wife returns home with my car with all my keys in it.... It won't win any beauty contests but mechanically it will be spot on...:thumbup1: I was going to keep it but I think I'm going to have to sell it to fund a couple of other projects... :thumbdown:

Im unsure on one thing tho on the 051 should the chain be free to move when the engine is off, as when i was going to sharpen the chain its wont move at all it runs freely when the engine is running and throttle applied but not when shut off which i thought it would do as it doesnt have a brake or is it a feature of the clutch
