Between jobs i thought i would replace some things on my caretaker's 020 saw. And this is what i found.

It looks like the photo is on the inlet side of the cylinder. It is almost impossible to get heat seize on this side and would think the piston has been damaged by the ingress of wood chip in through a damaged air filter.

 

I would check the bore and plating is in good condition and if it is OK, would fit a new Meteor piston and lightly hone the bore to allow it to bed in quickly.

Repaired my ms 200 t with JB weld , didn't work. So i'm shopping for a Crankcase.

Do you think a 16" bar is a bit much for an ms 240? Was using it today for the first time and it was almost stalling the chain in the cut. It sarts and revs out fine but it's just poor when cutting

 

I know the compression is good, think it's work checking the fuel line?

I would expect it to work with a 16" but not have much pace. When the saw is in the cut and stalls, are you saying the saw is still revving? If so, it sounds like the clutch is worn.

 

If it is just stalling/down on power and you think it is down to the engine being a bit worn then check the compression - see what it is on the first pull - 75psi+ is typical and then 150+ after 5-6 pulls is good.

 

It is possible the plating is worn, the rings are shot or the piston skirts have significant wear. It is also possible that you have fuel issues, blocked fuel filter, gauze filter, holed fuel line etc

 

Just give it a good going over!

It's like it's still revving ok but not enough speed on the chain

 

And the fuel cap doesn't sit quite right

If the machine is hitting the revs in the cut but the chain isn't spinning then it sounds like the clutch. Think of a car with a dodgy clutch going up hill - soaring revs but the car doesnt speed up!

Put it back together and popped the clutch of, looks like it's only been running on half of the drum
