I put a new brake band in a Huskie 3120 in January, and it came back this week.

 

"only used it a couple of times, and its gone again. The last one lasted for years" he said.

 

It had indeed gone again, but this time due to the clutch exploding. Has taken out the band, the drum, the clutch and the side cover.

 

Expensive.

I just rebuilt a 394 which had part of "the 2 part" shoe totally broken out yet apparently "it still worked fine" despite the rattle of the broken bit still in there. If that had got wedged in the clutch it would have the same outlook as your 120

Mmmm, nice. I have had a few MS200s in with "a carb issue" that were sorted by replacing the clutch springs because one was broken!

Locked as in seized won't go up and down ? Undo the block studs and see if it will lift up to wedge in place then put a piece of bar down the plug hole and beat it into submission. Put some penetrating oil down there as well just to lube it a bit and try a spanner on the flywheel nut.

Right, I shall give that a go! Then order just a piston hopefully, but I reckon it'll be a new cylinder assembly!

Just be carefull you don't kill the plug threads..

Amazing what some cylinders will survive with a bad piston.

If you go careful you may be able to get a prybar or decent screwdriver thru the exhaust port to help lever the piston down provided you have some clear space above it.
