Hi

I am getting more and more orders for logs no longer than 7". I usually cut them to 10" as a standard length, but now charge 10% extra to cut them shorter.

Am I being unreasonable or do any of you guys do the same, its all extra cuts and it takes longer to cut a trailer load.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

most of my clients seem to prefer 8" :001_cool:!!!!!!!!!

lots of my customers have small grates anyway, i do 8-9 inch mainly then store the bigger stuff elsewhere.

you cant keep them all happy mate, you need to work out your biggest market an go from there,

this changes from street to street, village to town etc etc

Most of my timber is seasoned as billets 36" long. Logs cut to size as customer requires them 6", 9", 12", 18", quite quick on the Eagle Saw. Straight in to barrow bags and delivered to their door, lots of positive feed back about being able to buy logs of different sizes and having them delivered to somewhere convenient.

The other way I look at it is leave the business for another log man in the area who maybe is better set up for smaller logs or is a bit quiet at the moment. I am happy to wait till December when people are less fussy and its easy to sell 50 cu metres a week of nice dry logs when everywhere has run out.
