how to price a job

Do people really find pricing that difficult? With any level of experience you can work out how long something is going to take. So from that work it on half a day or a full day. Then add on the cost of waste and your fine. If you need to rent in any equipment then add that as well.

Never tell a customer that you are pricing it for a days work. Because you will end up having to piss around wasting time if everything goes well. Just price the job and give them that.

No offence but i presume from your previous posts that you dont do that much tree work.

There are so many variables while pricing up tree jobs, its easy to get some wrong.

Its easy to bung a nice big price on though to cover all possible problems, but then some people have to compete more than others.

No offence taken. With my own guys I only deal with stuff on the ground. However I don't see how it is so much more difficult to work out how long it will take to climb a tree and knock of the limbs as apposed to just felling it and working it on the ground. I might be wrong. I also do a lot of hedge removals/reductions and fencing. Perhaps not as many variables, but I still think the principle stands, you should be able to tell how long something will take reasonably accurately with the exception of something completely out of the ordinary occuring.

It only takes a few people to knock you back a month or so and your profits gone and your forever playing catch up maybe thats buisiness , some guys i know with large crews have an amazing turn over but will always ve in the debts of creditors keeping it all going ,especially if you have been pushing your self on day rate jobs thinking that's all you need to earn to brake even... Because your not!! Earn to much and the tax man bites you.. Although has been said firstly I'm a tree climber not a buisness man ! some people can

always make money usually at the expensense of others ! But if you can make money out of tree work then fair play!
