Are you insured with NFU mutual Insurance

Have you had a claim ?

Did you get the full value of the item or did the loss adjuster make his own figure up based on glasses guide.

I am very bothered about leaving my Landrover in sured with them. I have put the value of my landrover at £12k because it is a 130, it's very well maintained and has a brand new engine and is a tipper, which I think is a very fair replacement value.

From my experience with NFU and after talking to many others, they very rarely pay out "sum insured" and their assessors alway under value things.

I wanted to insure my new CSF loader and have rung NFU and told them I have finance on the machine and it's value for that is £12600, although the machine is worth more like £15K.

I asked If I took out insurance on the finance value of £12.5K and the machine was stolen, would they pay out the sum insured or make up their own figure.

They said they would pay market value. I asked if they could provide me with insurance that would pay a guaranteed figure for the finance for the period of the policy, they said no.

Insurance is no good to me if they do not pay the sum insured and only pay what they value the machine at over a google search or glasses guide for similar machines. As we know, glasses guides dont take into consideration that your vehicle has a £2.5K tipper back, very expensive flashing led beacons, very expensive winches attached to the front etc etc etc

What are your experiences with NFU

A friend of mine just had an agricultural tipping trailer written off. NFU paid the “current market value” which is nearly a grand less than he paid for it 8 months ago.

He took a sweetened the deal by taking the salvage which is OK, but only if you want the salvage and whatever you had on cover hasn’t been nicked.

PS anybody want to buy a nearly new trailer with a "bit of a dent" in the back end?

I find ALOT depends on whether you go through a local office with a phoneable representative OR The Direct service.

The local offices are very good and will mostly go out of there way to help you should the brown stuff hit the whirly thing.

This is normal practice and very worrying. You can top up the insurance by adding in this items as accessories - more premium of course. If it was a new machine you could get "Gap" insurance to make up the difference between current and replacement value.

I've just been given a figure of £1400 for my P reg Daihatsu Fourtrak today from NFU direct. Its a bit less than i was expecting, but probably not too far off the value given the mileage. They used Auto trader to come up with the figure.

I've had to do all the ringing around and chasing up various departments to hurry things up, the whole process has taken a month to this point. I was not offered a courtesy car, and when I asked for one it took 3 days for them to find one and it was 15 miles away! My local office seems good however, I think I will go through them in future if i continue to use NFU

I had my old Hilux 'written off'. As the cost of repairing outweighed its value the NFU came up with a decent offer instead of being written off. I said I'd do the repairs myself...wing, bumper and the loss adjuster said 'in that case we'll give you £750 and no Cat D'. Took about a week to sort out.

When my quad was stolen I got full replacement value of the machine (like for like), max payout possible for personal effects, full allowance for fixed added extras ie winch and boxes. The girl in the local office was very helpful, and in her words "why should you be worse off because of the thieves?"

Unless you go to a 4x4 specialist you will struggle to get any insurer to give you an "agreed value" policy. I have not had a write off with NFU but I have made claims and have always found them to be very good. They are flexible about using your own choice of repairer and also modifications to your machine.

Today my van failed its mot on a cracked windscreen, I phoned NFU local office and told them that I had already told the garage to replace it, no problem they said just tell them to send the invoice here, £70 excess and no loss of no claims.

For me NFU insurance has been hassle free which is IME worth A LOT.
