I hope everything turns out ok Andy

I liked smoking

And that is the barrier that needs to be got over imo, it's such a powerful drug that it makes you think that, but once I got my head around that and realised I must be pretty stupid if I really think I like it.

I chose to give up smoking the week my step dad & a friend died, not a good week but again I thought, how can a cigarette really make me feel better.

For anyone giving up I wish you all the best with it, I have to be honest and say fitness wise I don't really feel much fitter, I still get out of breath really quickly, but I don't stink of smoke, and hey the roof lining in my truck isn't brown :)

Some of you might find this a bit of a help Quitkeeper

yeah, when I said I liked smoking I did mean I liked smoking! Now I dislike smoking, intensely. My revulsion is in my head i suppose, a mental kneejerk reaction to survive. That sounds extreme, but is probably whats going on deep inside my head. I am pleased that I have now managed 9 full days clean. And I rarely consider cigarettes during the day. Mind you, I now panic if I dont have a pack of gum in my pocket. :001_rolleyes: Another bloody addiction

I don't miss it, have had people smoking around me and still enjoy the smell.

Not a reformed get that thing away from me ex smoker.....not a substitute in site ..don't even regard myself as a ex smoker

In fact I am on a top buzz from being in control of my mind and body....cause if you cant control it who does..?

The hard bit for me was making that decision and sticking to it for the first 48hrs..it wasnt easy that's for sure

You have all helped by commenting on my first post and it was good to get it written down as it made it a reality that I really felt I could not back down from.

Also receiving good will from lets be honest 'strangers' just show's what a good community there is here and I tip my hat to you all.:thumbup1:

Had my first fag at 13 smoked everything possible to smoke since, now at 40 I have dropped it like a hot potato.

THE END

Well, back from the hospital following various checks for Throat Cancer etc. I'm clear!! Woo-hoo. I've never really been afraid of much in life, but the fear of throat cancer and the period of waiting to find out has had me on edge for the last couple of weeks. i intend to carry on the good work of not smoking, its noticeable how much healthier I feel already. Good times
