Besides, the Latin names almost always refer to certain aspects or characteristics of a genus and/or species....

I love the descriptiveness of a lot of the scientific names. They can tell you a lot about the specimen's size, shape, colour, habit, place of origin and so on and can be helpful with ident's.

Those that use the system all the time are obviously presuming that those that don't, never do.

I use it when needed antione, when I'm ordering trees from Ashridge or dealing with an application.

Ninety percent of us are lowly tree cutters with work that takes us to the edge of our towns and villages, we are not international arborists travelling the world

People using Latin unneccessarily remind me of the majority of people on the wine isle at morrisons, they are clambering for a higher status than their natural ability will allow

Show off!!!!

I never use Latin for applications.

(I love wine)

Theres a mirriad of reasons to use botanical (latin?) names especially as someone mentioned you want to pin down a species.

The best one is when you are in common name mode and a snobby or knowledgeable customer starts going all latin on you. Give them a moment then give them it back with interest. It's beautiful if a bit cruel. So go on , learn botanical- you'll be glad you did
