Maybe that was a bit non pc to use the term 'retards' to describe mesterh and his ilk, what I should have said was, 'vacant-headed idiots'

People like him shouldn't be allowed to post on forums, or vote for that matter.

Untermenchen perhaps?

What makes your point of view more valid or important than anyone elses?

Nice Tim. Derail, slander and intollerance. From Jason having the balls to post his own mistakes, with the view to warn others. To your derision of other members for doing little more than refusing to agree with you. It takes a talented TROLL to engineer such a turn in a thread.

So go on, be a good TROLL and disapear back under the stone from whence you came

my best solution to that Tim is to start and run your own forum, that way you can decide who can and can't post. I'm sure many of us will come and join, i know i'm a member at 4 arb forums and a few other (cycling, photography and various board sports to name a few).

Mesterh maybe was in the wrong to poke a slight jab at you but you took that to the next level.

Ok, this is turning into a petty squabble, taking cheap shots at one another is serving absolutely no purpose whatsoever. Tim, you have put your view across, which of course you are entitled to, and others have done the same. Now lets keep things on track in a decent and affable manner, and keeping within the Forum rules please, in particular rule no. 4.

I thank you, gentlemen.

Nicely put Andy. Ed and Pete get so easily upset. mesterh's post was pretty funny. :laugh1:

I think my posting style is all wrong, i'll work at being more constructive.

Jason's wound has highlighted the hugely differing opinions on one handing and cut and chuck techniques, from what i can tell, most climbers in the uk are one handing/cut and chucking and this was always the norm.

I've gone through periods at the start of my career in treework where I used these techniques all the time. I stopped working like this when I started working for a company who banned one handed use of the saw except in the most extreme circumstances. If climbers in the company continued to use the saw one handed they would lose their job. This forced me to find the best work position to use the saw two handed and in doing so greatly improved my climbing.

I'm stepping down off the fence on this, for a wee while, anyways :blushing:...................all be it I find myself siding generally with the majority on this, as a boss however, I try to proscribe Tims above statement to my climbers as often as I can.

I am very fortunate to not be working comercially, so speed has no place in our jobs.

So if a climber comes to us with "real world" bad habits, the very first thing to be addresed is the re-learning of safe positioning and cutting, two anchors - two hands.

I'll be honest, I'm no angel and regularly catch myself doing things in a tree that make me a hypocrit.

But if I am slack, I will however talk over the point with the team afterwards.

Try at all times to stay within "the guidelines" and "good climbing guides"

Imo, having met and chatted with some of the authors of these, they do have our welfare in the forefront of their minds,

and not the red tape big brother mindset that some of us fear.

Our interaction on here is surely about education primarily, excepted there's a place for the macho bs as well, that is and always will be a part of this industry, but lets not forget that we have a duty of care to continue to inspire and help educate the newbies into the fantastic world of professional and safety minded Arboriculture

Tim if I employed a climber I would have the same rule, "duty of care" and all that!!
