Is there an electrics guru?

Hi,

my transit tipper has stopped tipping, not too much of a problem apart from the fact I cant get my tools out of the under body tool locker :001_rolleyes:

There is an on/off isolator switch that has a small light on it, this works. When I press the tipper rocker switch, the light on the 'on/off' switch goes out and no tip!

I have just replaced both switches (just in case) but still no joy :confused1:

All connections are good at the battery end too.... but i cant check the wiring under the tipper (for obvious reasons :001_tt2:)

Does it sound like an earth fault? anyone have ANY suggestions?!

Thanks

The electrics on a tipping circuit are as simple as can be.

I am assuming you checked for live to the switches when you replaced them.

If that doesn’t fix it you are probably going to have to crawl underneath to sort it out

Following the check the live from the switch to the tipping gear pump. It will go to a solenoid which should also be checked.

If all the connections are good and you have a live to the solenoid, either it or the pump is duff. You can bypass the solenoid by putting a conductor across the 2 live terminals, it’s a bit “fly” and will make sparks so be carefull.

Can you hear anything making a clicking sound by the ram/oil filler when you/someone operates the switch?

If yes then either the pump or the connections to(they are thick wires like battery/starte motor wire) are knackerd or in the case of wires by just need a terminal clean.

If no(and it can be very faint and hard to hear sometimes), then either a fuse, switch, solenoid or feed/earth to the solenoid needs repairing.

what area of west sussex are you mate??

Chichester/Arundel area, I am not directly involved with the ARB industry, just have an interest and am learning through reading this forum!

Thanks for the suggestions. There is occasionally a click from the solenoid when i try it, I ll have another check of the connections and buy a new solenoid to try that too.
