my truck could take that, but i've only just scraped together enough for a twenty year old tow behind so a tracked chipper is a little way off yet. But tbh if their website is tru eand you can only be fined up to £200 for overloading if/when it happens i'm deffinatley not as concerned as i was about the prospect of getting caught a little heavy.

thats £200 for yr 1,st offence ,they can & will go thru the truck & nit pic then impond yr truck

not as costly as some make out , about £800 for "o" liesence ,are 12wk checks are £45! any probs will be picked up @ check time so spreading any reair cost over the yr in stead of 1, hit @ test time & working with in 25m of base no records required, which suits me

Thats interesting, never heard of no records required if you keep within 25 mile, is that for 7.5t and above, how do you go about convincing the authorities of this, do you still need proper 'o' licence.

cheers.:confused1:

hi guys just to add to o license .we recently got our o license a important thing to remember which made me get ours sorted ! if you have a accident and you are over loaded or illegal in another way then you face the consequences  then you might run into problems with your insurance ! so guys think on .

Think log dog is right if you give them something to pull you for they will try and find something. Overloaded may void insurance meaning driving with no insurance plus fine plus i

possibly impounding vehicle plus driving without correct license a few points and fines can add up

I can se why everyone just gets on and ignores that they're overweight now, maybe i'll go back to that for a bit:blushing:

class C license which is rigid trucks up to 38t is about £1300 for a week's training and test, not too sad really, but still alot of money to drive somehing essentially the same size as my current truck but with a bigger number on the plate

It's less about the level of fine one is going to get it's the safety of the rig. There are limits to the braking ability of a vehicle just the same as there are to the ability of a vehicle towing a trailer.

The more you have on it the more distance you need to stop. If you're over loaded the more likely your brakes, suspension etc is likely to have a catastrophic failure the same as rigging gear.

Think of the consequences of causing a collision by being unable to stop. Bad enough if your legal. If over weight or have any fault with the vehicle you're to blame unless you have some very reliable external witnesses.

Compound that if you, your staff or a mother of 2 young children is killed.

I know I've over loaded in the past, I guess everyone has, but do try to think of the implications of sanctioning overloading openly. Most transit type vehicles with chip boxes have the capacity to be grossly overloaded and VOSA know it. Fortunately for most they don't have much manpower.
