Hi guys,

We're in the process of starting a recruitment and temping agency for the Arb industry. If you're a freelance climber, groundsman, consultant or have any other link to the industry and would like to be on our register please email us: [email protected] Please include all NPTC units and any other qualifications you have along with any other information you'd like us to have. We also need to know whereabouts you are happy to work and what type of driving licence you hold.

Tristan.

I take it there will be a fee for your agency? If so surely you'll be competing against the currently free Arbtalk employment forum, Arbjobs.com etc. There is a reason many are struggling to seek work, and thats the fact is there are more arbs than available work out there.

Another small point, companies such as Arbjobs pay to advertiise their services here, you may be advised to contact the forum owner Steve Bullman concerning this, so as not to "tread on toes".

Like any industry, temp' agencies can provide a useful function. I'm already signed up to a few and being on the books of another one only increases my chance of work

BUT, agencies are not exactly altruistic and don't always offer a good deal, especially in a niche market where the choices may be limited.

I have done a lot of temping tree work over the years for various London LAs and I have found the best way to proceed is to use whatever agencies are already approved by the LA (or other company) offering the work. Then I sign up with whichever one offers me the best deal, regardless of whether they are a specialised arb' company or not.

That's my top tip du jour

There will be no fee to sign up.

I'm not competeing with ArbJobs, the'r model is very different.

What we are aiming to offer is a resource that companies can go to when they need an extra staff member for a short period of time. We will have a register of professionals, who's certification, work history etc have been fully checked, on our system and be able to supply the company with a suitable person quickly.

The company seeking the staff will pay the fees.

Hope that makes things clearer.

Tristan.

I should probably mention how I came to think that this is a good idea:

I run a fairly small Arb company in West Wales (and have done for 10 years), one of the problems that I come accross on an irregular basis is having the right number of workers. It's the nature of any business that there are busy times and slow times and obviously there are ways to deal with that and we all continue with the appropriate number of staff for our businesses. But then along comes three large jobs that all need to be done at the same time and you just need one or two extra staff that you can count on to be good; and that's where I aim for Arb-tempUK to fit in.

Hi Tristan,

I think this is a great idea as im brand new to the industry and its getting very tough to find any work because everyone wants people with experience but how do i get experience if nobody gives me a chance.

I have sent you an email with a few details on and also attatched a copy of my C.V.

If you want anything else just let me know.

Good luck with it and hope lots of people sign up.

Paul
