this is a bit off topic but there is alot of talk about chain saw use, lolar, haveing the right ticket etc but in my experents the most common injury is a bad back.If the money spent complying with all the hse regs, was spent reduceing manuel lifting of wood would we be better of ?.

I have the scars from over 80 staples in my back, the result of 3 spine ops. Can climb day in day out (at my own pace) without any problems. Spend a day on the ground and im knackered. IMO (and my backs) ground work is far higher risk than climbing. You must appreciate and uderstand how to lift/drag etc in a way so as not to shag your body today, tomorrow or in ten years time.

My back problems were not caused directly by lifting etc. I hope none of you ever have to go through the same as me. Learn how to do things properly within the limits of your body, dont be an :asshole2: , it will come back to bite.

i try to stay psyched that lifting is compressive on bad back; while climbing is opposite; light traction on back.

i've got 3 blowed out disks on right side. So; the left works harder and goes into spasm from tension pulls on it as it tries to make up for right side when lifting.

what does a man who only uses a chainsaw with 2 hands and a mokey have in common

They both *uck about up up trees

only joking alex

lmfao,

if you used 2 hands all the time then you might as well get the ipaf out and just stand in a bucket all day long, some good work can be done out streched with 1 hand as long as your not being silly, there is certain limits 1 hand can do but each climber SHOULD know these limits

Rules are made because morons need a nanny.

When I make a single handed cut my body, legs and feet are safely away from the fall of the saw (including deflection).

If there is a danger of kick back I won't do it.

If the saw is likely to pinch and fall with the cut limb I won't do it.

Work position and situation asssessment is key.

Otherwise, yes there is risk in all we do. Its up to the individual. I think its ok if your sensible.
