Hama, no-one is saying DONT give advice, 99.9% of your advice is superb, but like many, if not ALL, of us on this forum, there is that 0.1% which may be misguided perhaps. In my case it is probably more like 10% not 0.1%, and (and i am sure i speak for others here) it is never a PERSONAL dig.:

The images this guy posted made it an easy call, they illustrated all perfectly well and made it an easy and quick assessment based on VTA VISUAL tree assessment (photos are visual!)

A GOOD practitioner will have a deep understanding of tree form and decay characteristics, and be able to see what the tree is doing from a structural modification point of view. A tree that is healthy and vital is rarely a hazard, and its vitality is to the trained observer obvious even in the depths of the dormant season.

Yes there is some basal decay ( common in old trees, especially ash) but there is good root adaptation taking place, this can be CLEARLY observed.

this all wholly irrelevant as it is the included region that was being asked about, and that is not an issue in THIS tree IMO. It isnt a fork inclusion, it is a fusing of two trunks, and its doing well, I only have to be certain of its safety for a period of 12 months from inspection (these photos) and I am 100% satisfied within that limitation.

I dont think people object to you giving advice Hama.....and on many occasions it is informative and welcomed. From what i can see people pick you up when on giving advice (from pictures) you often remark that 'it is easy' or 'you'd have it down in a couple of hours or 'it will be safe as houses'.....Its comments such as these that seem to be queried...Tommer was joking with you....that was plain to see. You shouldnt abstain from giving advice when asked however.:001_smile:

your point is noted and I realise I come across as a little cock sure of myself, thats because i am, and i walk the walk, not just talk the talk, so I dont get bent out of shape, I have nothing to get bent out over or feel insecure about to get bent up.

all I am saying is that is it really worth trying to assist many people who may or may not have any arboreal experience and may just be looking for some basic advice before approaching a contractor/consultant for a more legitimate opinion, when each time i am going to have to justify everything i say because someone doesn't think i should be saying it!

I like helping, its what I studied and spent my MY time in the woods refining this art for, to be the best I can be, my standards are high and I am my own worst critique, i would NEVER give such advice if I couldn't back it up on any/all levels from the coalface dirty hands level to the academic level.

This work, it is my life, that may be sad to some, but I am really doing something that I am born and driven to do, and many many people can not say the same of their working life. I LOVE this work, and im sorry, but I will ALWAYS take it personally, because that's the way i am, i care very much about my professional integrity and reputation.

I csan only react to what is writen, I dont know tommer well enough to know his ways or sense of humour so I can ONLY take it as it seems to come across, and for me it came across as patronising and condescending (I come across that way often too!:blushing:)

I could ignore these comments and get on with my life, but i happen to quite like everyone here and being here so in the interests of maintaining good relationships I am open and speak my mind, and try to resolve differences because i like to get on with folk and make friends :001_cool:

and besides, i hate losing an argument!

If you are so worried about it, get it cut down and use is for fire wood. Grind it out and plant something else in its place. It would come down as two seperate trees.

That is always an option....

But no regard of the trees function in a tecnical and aestetical way?

What about rainreception, wind brake, shade, microclimate, humidity during hot summerdays.... beauty and around 100 years of growth? Can it be replaced with a newly planted tree?:confused1:

Knowing how the above post of mine will be taken.....

Listen, the truth is i couldnt give a rats arse what THEY think of ME, but the attitude overall in this way of speaking to eachother is putting off a lot of interesting (but sensitive types) and somone has to try and get these lot to see it, or this forum will always be just a bunch of hairy arsed arbs, I would like to see a few of the forest imps, mr trees stick around, rather than run away when the heats on them!

Im not really a drama queen, i just wanna see a few of the "observer" types not run away when they do finally choose to post, and thats happened a fair bit.

maybe im asking too much, to say "hey lets stop this way of talking" in order to get a few "specialists posting"?

:001_smile:

and I dont have any teddy bears either!:001_rolleyes:
