Andrew Kennedy, 58, who has lived in the area for over 20 years, said: "It has been dead for 15 years. It was an accident waiting to happen. The tree was obviously dead and should have been dealt with. It just couldn't cope with the wind."

This statement surely can't be true, can it :scared1:

I'm sure there's some substance to it though.

I would not want to be in those Tree officers shoes

Something has gone very wrong here.

I shall be watching this story very closely.

It is thought that the roots of the tree – situated in the grounds of Moor Allerton Primary School – had died and the wall which had been supporting it crumbled away due to the pressure, leaving it to crash onto the road.

The above is taken form Peters link RE the Beech.

Had a lot of leaves for a "dead" tree! LOL!!!

Dont you just love reporters! That was written by someone in an office somewhere who had never been to site and probably wouldnt know a beech tree if one landed on top of their bus.

There was a building behind the tree, which was demolished a few years ago. The roots were probably damaged then, and once the dreaded meripilus got to work the tree didnt stand a chance.
