How would you go about getting into a conifer with no crotch?

Why didn't you use a ladder to the first limb then just climb to your way up using personal line and climbing line?

Because I hate ladders, they take up to much room and give the unskilled the idea that they should have a go, imo.

I never use ladders for tree work, only step ladders for some hedges.

Ladders for me .:thumbup1:

Only because its probably better aroarboricultural practice than spiking and friction damage caused by line throwing, rather than it being easier.:001_huh:

Its only other tree workers that frown upon ladders, clients couldnt give a monkeys.

Ladders? triple 16's in a conifer would scare the bejesus out of me. Start at the bottom, with a pair of spikes and get to the top taking each branch off. Then knock the top off either on rigging or let it drop! Then chog down to a suitable height and fell!! Bish Bash Bosh! Or go and work for someone and let them show you!

Free climb, if you get a bit tired on the way up just side strop in for breather then carry on until you've found a decent anchor point.

Not recommended for novices of course.....:001_tongue:

Normally not one to nitpick, but this is a thread started by a novice.

Not recommended for anyone. Would hate to see a premature primadonna take you seriously.

I know you're joking but he may not, and not all novices know they are novices.
