£100-£120 is too cheap IMO. everyone needs to raise their rates regardless of the recession.

 

At £120 a day assuming a 260 days a year working - 20 days to cover leave thats an annual salary of £28,800. Not bad.. More than your average small tree company owner probably makes with none (less)of the hassle/financial risk and evenings doing paper work.

 

I can't pay everyday climbers that as I'd end up being unable to be competative. On special difficult jobs maybe, but I don't need climbers for tricky jobs (I can do them) I need extra climbers to get through street trees and regular stuff.

 

All I'm saying is climbers who ask for too much will work less.

well im experienced and on less than 90 bah,

I remember contract climbing for £90 a day. But when you look at what you take home after -30% it doesn't add up to much. £63 then minus your fuel costs £55. Then add wear and tear £50. 5 days a week if you are lucky £250.And at the end of that week you are knackered from climbing someones shi**y trees.

 

Fair enough we have to be competitive but sometimes I wonder .

The fact is that tree work is a lifestyle choice, it's easy and cheap to set up a business and there are folk out there doing work for wood!

 

I don't think many people are getting rich doing tree work.. Or maybe I'm just doing it wrong..

Im a freelance contractor who has been working souly with one company for the past 3 years, im wanting to figure out what the average contractor gets now a days.

 

3 years, with no holiday pay sick pay etc? You are being shafted, you are not a contractor and you are not freelance, you are an employee with no benefits, and I bet you owe some tax? Your "boss" should be paying that for you and if IR cought up that is exactly what would be happening.

Also don't forget to add in the few own jobs that they do a year. No contract climber i know only does 'Contract climbing' you'd have to be as fool to pass up a quote on a job. But at £100 a day take out all the bits n bobs is still £300 per week in your pocket for 5 days which in fairness you could be on worse. I pay myself £200 per week so you contract climbers get better than me.
