World gone mad (HSE)

An old couple had their car breakdown on the dual carriage A46 near Newark showground. A passerby saw that flames were coming out the underneath so stopped, got them out of the car and called the Fire Brigade. The fire was from hot oil etc after the car threw a rod and died without causing any further histrionics. Police called because of the slow lane closure and council incident team turned up to block off carriage way. Heyho all well and good. Thanks for attending.

Upset retirees have another hour+ to wait until recovery truck is to arrive and are asked not to go back into the car and wait behind the armco (it is spitting with rain, grey and blustery). The passerby suggests that they will be better off out of the weather in the Police car or the Incident Team truck, which is not permitted by their respective employers due to insurance reasons. The AA will arrive in over a hour and they are told to wait outside.

It then transpires that as the car has been reported as "on fire", the recovery will be to the nearest yard (Newark) and they will then have to find their own way home or to their destination. The AA will not take them home with their vehicle.

The passerby suggests that the car and couple are taken the mile to the cafe/service area where they can await the AA in more comfortable, safer and convenient surroundings. That is not permissible. No one is permitted to enter the vehicle and a suspended tow will not be arranged.

The car is left to take up one lane of the A46. The couple are to stand behind the armco for over an hour then find their own way forward. Other road users have to put up with the hazard of a lane closure. The Incident team push sawdust etc up the oil slick then retire to the cab for the duration.

What is the world coming too. What would you do?

Take pictures and videos of everyone and everything, the old couple looking miserable behind the barrier, the car, the AA, the police and council incident team(especially them sitting in their cab), then send it all to the Daily Mail......they deal with that kind of thing these days, they're all we've got left.

Reverse into them and bang in a whiplash claim.

Quality! hahaha :lol::lol:

Im afraid i cant type a long answer, due to health and safety reasons i might get an RSI from typing too much.

It completely depends on the situation, if i was in a truck that had flashing lights i would probably stop and help out, but it would be a bit cosy, 3 of us in a tight landy!

Whiplash!?! Forsooth Man!:sneaky2:

Actually, I gave them a lift home - Newark to Ashby De La Zouch! About 20 miles extra round trip from home tho! Hope that someone would do that to my parents if they were in need.

No Thermos or Werthers tho..................
