Unimogs rock thread

I love the idea of having a mog for work.... but how many of you guys use it as your main vehicle?

 

Is it more or less useable than tipper transit and tow behind chipper?

No doubt more expensive to run, but is that offset by work productivity?

 

As mentioned on another mog thread - "don't get one coz its 'cool'" - this i apreciate but i do however see the pottential in the beast as well as the fun element!!

I use mine as my main truck and alot of the sites we work on you could not get any other trucks in there.

I have never had a private job that I could not use it on. the only real problem is that 1, low mpg 2, can cost a a lot to fix it, but plus side free tax no mot cheap to insure

tow my caravan to santapod a few times a year with my mog, always gets some laughs mog with 2 berth caravan behind it

that’s a Merc Zetros truck that come in 4x4 and 6x6 configuration.

 

If you have a squire cab SBU/MBU Unimog you will recognise the doors and the general underlying cab structure

So to have a mog as your front line truck in thoery could be a viable option.....

I suppose running a small pick up or landy for example would compliment a mog, as you could zip around for tiny jobs/quotes/hedge cutting etc and bring out the heavy artillery at all other times when required! I'm guessing a mog acts as a pretty good advert too?!

Now I consider the pros and cons the less apealing setup is the truck and chipper!!

 

What is the carrying capacity in terms of chip weight etc?

Yaffle if you have a mog then i dont see the point in having another 4x4 truck, compliment a mog with a van or 3.5tipper.

You want to put stuff in you cant chip, ie sweepings, rakings, some hedge cuttings logs etc. I have a luton tail lift with a gloria in the back and all my other kit. So if i go to a hedge cutting job and need to do a bit of chipping i can. And monster dumpy bags of stuff isnt a hassle with the tail lift

No not sure mate. Last time I worked for a firm that used him was a couple of years ago.
