Would imagine a crack like that would not show up till it was too late.

I can't see why every one is banging on about washing the machine the guy's giving a heads up! you should be thanking him not slating him!

 

My van and chipper looks like that after a week!

 

Besides most metal before it fails has a hair line crack you can hardly see until it does fail

and then you say "ahh thats been like that for ages...look how rusty its is!"

I dont want my chipper to be clean a shiney it attracts the wrong sort of attention and as for jet washing it just pushes the water and grit into the bearings.

Ha ha, so a dirty chipper is less likely to get stolen?

 

Whereas a clean rig is more likely to create a better impression with the client.

 

I don’t “jet wash” mine, I use a sponge and swill off with a hose, If I did pressure wash it, it wouldn’t matter if the bearings got a passing hit, mine (as do most) have seals to external and since I grease it daily any contaminants would come out in the purge

 

I still say that washing is a perfect opportunity to inspect, you wouldnt treat your climbing kit like that would you?
