Im not sure that this is a personal thing at all Steve- merely alot / several concerned arborists who may well be wondering about the state of their own steel core flip lines, wanting as much clarification about one that has failed as possible, in order to make informed decisions about life saving equipment.:001_smile:

so far the details been given are vague at best

No I'm not saying it's done that in 6 months, regular checks should of picked up on it though even if a LOLER inspector didn't.

What's your beef with LOLER?

I think I should be able to check my own gear and spend my cash on new gear not pointless certs.

As tommer has said i believe people are interested in more facts as they can then go look at there own kit and see if there is any issues which may have been overlooked !

A near miss or a failiure is something no one wants to have or experience but your openness to post this near miss will have opened up peoples eyes to giving there own stuff the once over before they use it next time and the extra info asked for just makes it clearer as to the faliure of the wire and other things to look out for i dont elive anyone would openly or inprivate bellitle you stuff happens you were good enough to post a warning :)

yeah the strop is prob more than a few years old, it shouldnt of failed tho. anyway it passed its loler 6 months ago. it was a bit dirty but allweather climbing caused that. i aint a fair weather fairy:001_tt2: im still alive thats all that counts for you lot trying to turn it on me.

How on earth is this anyone's fault but your own? If you use a piece of equipment past it's safe lifetime, it's on you, end of story. Inspections by a third party only go so far, and a good inspector would have noticed this was too old. But it's your equipment, you know the history, you should have retired it.

As Gord says. The details on the strops history are still far too vague for anyone to draw conclusions and that is definitely an old strop.

I check my gear as often as I check the tree I'm climbing. Keeps me alive and vigilant.

Everyone on here is clearly concerned and this thread is dragging on because we need the details, please.
