Christchurch earthquake

Oh Er. Looks bad on the news. Christchurch is on a silt and gravel plain with a high water table which makes it worse. It has some of the best drinking water in the world.

 

In the the Haiti earthquake 316,000 people died and 200,000 serious injuries and 1,000,000 people made homeless.

Terrible News. Poor people- they seem to be just getting hit after hit.

Just got home and checked my emails. My whole inbox is full of earthquake reports from Ch'ch and most measuring 4.5 or more. 27 since 7 this morning and there's a few at 5+ so it's not over for the cantabrians yet. The after shocks are likely to continue for some time which could bring down more buildings. People have been evacuated from the area but there are people being pulled out alive from collapsed buildings so here's hoping the toll of dead and injured doesn't continue to rise.

heard from adam holland and hes fine was packing all his gear away when it hit,imagine being up a tree.

ive lots of friends their who all have said its total carnage but not heard about adam/atree yet.

Gutted for you! My missus collegue is from NZ. Still havent been in contact with several friends... My thoughts are with all of you!

Hi people.Thanks for the messages.Well Im now in wellington,Where i live is just over the hill from the epicenter (lyttleton) and it was very shallow (5k deep)I was at home at the time,Knocked me to the floor everything was shaken to the floor.Was very loud too.,House is all good (made of timber frame).I was in central city 20mins before it happend.Also got evacuated of our hill due to large cracks in the cliff face but allowed back for the time being.

 

Was very scary this time
