Wind turbines/wind farms. Your thoughts on them.

Apparently wave power energy is much more efficient with less eye polution than wind turbines. They are developing a couple in NZ and I've seen a few others about but it seems various governments don't want them. Fossil fuels are the easy way out and take little effort on the part of the beurocrats. I still stand by my statement though; wind turbines are a waste of time.

Theres a couple new wind farms in south west scotland at the edge of Ae forest on top of a hill side and i think they look cool when the sun shines on them with black rain clouds behind,Way better than looking at a power station(if you live near one)

Just room for a little more thought, and may put into prespective how rediculous some of the directives are behind such schemes, I have a job in the pipeline at the moment that involves removing a row of mature Ash and Elm trees so the trucks carrying the turbine blades can access the site!

I believe wind energy as its place, but not in the large farm scale. More important is where does your electricity get produced now? If it is not in your local area then some when else is having to put up with your 'dirty space' whilst you enjoy your 'clean space'. I think energy efficiency although still improve is the key to meeting the demands of a rising population back up with local supply method.

I live in the east midlands in a small village called Watford gap. They ar planning on having 2 wind farms, one at the top of the village and one at the bottom. The turbines will be the tallest in Britain, 240m tall with a span of over an acre each. There will be I think 15 in all. The 5 surrounding 5 villages all have a w. Farm planned as well.

I think this is over kill and all I have worked for, being a place to live, will drop considerably in price. So will piss me off a treat.

From what I have read they are not energy viable and run at tops 30% efficient. They return the energy they took to make them in 25 years. Etc

Now I know farmers have to make a living and all that but com on.

What are your thoughts on them??

i no there ugly but would rather have them that blady nuclear plants

Apparently there was a day last winter when not a single windmill in the whole of the UK was turning. Since coal/nuclear power stations can't be turned on and off just like that, IMHO windmills are just an expensive, irrelevant eyesore. Plenty of farmers will get rich out of them but they won't save the planet.
