Pricing - too high?

I've priced 4 jobs this week and got none.

 

All were standard 1-dayers for 2 blokes, chipper, truck and muckaway. All priced at £400, one at £550 because I would have had some grubbing out to do on my own the following day.

 

One hasn't responded at all, two acted like I'd said 'thousand' instead of 'hundred', and I lost out on one by fifty quid.

 

I've worked with a lot of different teams, and we are up to scratch on speed and efficiency. The jobs weren't anything exciting, and didn't need any specialised or big kit.

 

I could start pricing at £300/day, but don't really fancy being a busy fool and winding the clock back 8 years.

 

I think £400/day for proper grafting with £40k worth of gear is too cheap anyway!

to be totally honest if you are charging £400 a day then i would guess thats what you are happy to work for , dont settle for a price you aint happy with . i work on the principle of winin 2 jobs for every 10 quoted , i will leave other to be busy fools buying work . so in a nutshell stick to your gunns !!!

Cant really help on prices mate tough they seem right to me. But don't you find when your busy you get everything you price, but when times are slack you always seen to lose out. Or is that just me?

£400 all in or plus vat Mark?

 

All 'proper' tree work, or the sort that could be attempted by gardeners with saws?

 

With today's fuel prices etc, I'd have said you were too cheap.

I think I've got to go the other way, Mark.

 

Found out yesterday that a job to thin 4 Pines (which would take 2 of us a day at a cost of €440.00) was done for €1,200! And all the brash was still outside the gate..... And they'd 'Lion-Tailed' the muthas!

 

Methinks a doubling of prices is in order.

 

Seriously, though, I know there's an urge to go in a bit cheaper, but if questioned, explain they're getting a quality service by professionals using expensive kit.

You aren't asking for much money Mark, there just must be plenty others working for nowt.

 

I wont drop prices at all, even if Im slack, and cant see how anyone at the moment can be lowering theirs while costs are rocketing.
