just wondered wether u hav to wear saw trousers if u are using a silky or a hedgecutter, also do u hav to have a guy with areial rescue ifu are only using a silky?

i would say no to the first question, although i'm not entirely sure with regards the hedgecutter.....hse may argue that some protection is better than none even though its not specific hedgecutter protection

 

and yes you should have an aerial rescue available for any aerial work i believe

silkys can be lethal, i once ran a silky across my knee by accident and it made a right mess of my chainsaw pants, i was glad i had them on.

I think for hedgetrimmers, as well as everything else, appropriate PPE should be worn. Chainsaw trousers are way beyond what you might need, but some form of tough clothing would be good.

 

We wear Shorts! and only do hedge trimming in summer so that we can wear shorts!

I got a bit carried away with some hedge cutting a few years back and bashed my knee with the business end. Made a lovely snaped cut and bruised like a big purple thing. It was brilliant.

good question matt.......how about if you have a climber and a mewp on hand but no arial rescue?

You're climbing with ropes- even a secateur you may fall get hurt- need aerial rescue.

Hedgecutters though- I assume you're talking about on the ground- more likely to take your fingers off IMHO
