Was the actual guy in the film? And did he ever go back and get his hand?

 

It did not say if he went back, I would imagine some one went fairly quickly, to see if any of it was savable.

 

He appears at the end of the film, (with a stump) and it shows pic's and all the things he has achieved since the incident.

I like and hate films like this- touching the void was the most memorable film I have ever seen- brilliant.

I think the authorities went back to get his arm and then cremated it and gave him the ashes

I did not think I was going to enjoy it, but I did.

 

Its 100X better than "Buried alive", what a pile of pooh that was

I havent seen the film, so I dont know how they presented it, but by the time he cut it off I believe he had pretty much lost all feeling and use of the limb anyway, through the crush injuries.

I would hope I could do it and would imagine most of us would when the survival instinct kicks in.

 

Whether I would leave it too long and then be too weak to carry it out or survive afterwards would be another thing.

His hand is trapped and probably dead, but he can't cut the trapped part, so has to cut where its not trapped, I think it would have been very painful, but the film takes you through all the thought process that got him to the point where he knew it was do it or die.

I remember when I first saw 'Alive', I pondered what it would be like cutting slices off your dead mates, trying to survive high up in the Andes.

 

Think that's my favourite survival film

But I know I would have more chance of being able to do it now, because of my kids, than before I had them.
