Xmas packages for contracts manager (sweeteners)

I was wondering what many of you smaller firms do by way of christmas presents/cash donations would do if asked by larger outfits you sub into for sweeteners. Not so much to those who work directly for LAs but more for the smaller outfits that would be working as subbies to the large outfit. What do you do when asked for donations to christmas dos and the like or just bluntly asked for xmas sweetners by contracts managers that give you too much work for you to ignore.

I would prefer if this was replied to by people who have had this or similar experiences as what most people think they would do is probably not what they would actually do IMO.

Can't say it happened to me personally, but the small firm I used to work for had a friendly visit from the contracts manager, during the course of the following conversation he was greatly impressed with 'those handy looking little saws (ms200)', boss took the heavy hint but wasn't going to go down that route, funnily after that we never got any local contracts (within 50ish miles, which by coincidence was this blokes area) all our work was then national stuff.

i'm happy just getting a few beers bought for me and some scran. i do the same. plus the usual bottle of whisky etc but thats just a big game of pass the parcel till the xmas shut down cos nobody really likes the stuff.

not heard of donations for xmas do's before. you either invite someone and pay for them or you dont, as far as i am concerned.

a gift is a box of chocolates, slab of beer or a bottle of whisky is for people that HELP you through out the year for know financial gain. Anything else is a bribe, sweetner, back hander and i dont want to deal with anyone like that, if thats the way they play then i aint playing with them, end of simples.
