Ive often thought about nailing a line of scaffold planks onto the old stumps on our regular hedging, would be time well spent! dont envy you that one.

I dont mind a bit of hedging connies but thats just one of those you turn up to in the cold light of early morning and go......

NNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

i do a similar size hedge tony that used to have scaffy boards all the way along them, single stemmed trees though, but unfortunately they rott very quickly and become very dangerous, the last time i did the hedge i cut them all out and through them out the trees. you can see in the last pic where i have started reducing them at the far end. It will be a full shift tommorrow for sure. The front edge isnt easy to keep level, as the branches are all contorted so when you cut a larger piece you dont know what you are going to take out.

finished my big hedge today, i havent done it for 3 years, every year it gets worse, wider and more foot holds are lost due to rot in the centre, took me approx 9 hrs all in.

it is onle 5 trees theat make up the hedge. the second one from the end has died in the middle and one of the stems has fallen forward, hense the big hole.:biggrin:
