Open top bus highways prunning

Anybody ever heard of tree surgeons in an open-top bus, light crown lifting for the 6.5m required clearance on A-roads? obviously not M-roads.

 

Apparently this is how it used to be done!. I'm looking to see if i can hire one from somewhere in sussex. then have a rolling road TM vehicle follow behind.

 

Sounds crazy.

 

I'm not sure its possible. Then again if its gonna happen it will happen in Sussex!

I've seen it recently. The swine came and lopped a load of trees which one of my recommended contractors had just done a lovely pruning job on.

used to do it all the time, easer if there's no seats on the top deck, so you can walk along to stay still:001_rolleyes: used on with the seats in once nearly fell over the side:blushing:

Seen one knocking around Ashford in Kent. It was possibly Keith Taits boys using it?

 

Far quicker than a MEWP Josh, zero set up time. If you were quick enough you wouldn't even have to stop!

 

Make sure you've got your tickets though.

they use them round here in kent, every few years it comes past with the chipper in tow!! can give you the number of the firm if needed so you can ask about hire availability

I saw this method being used on a local news report a year or two ago somewhere in East Sussex. It is not new a method, I was told that open top buses were used in around Brighton before Dutch Elm disease.

Used to have one in Swindon. not used it myself, but the chipper was mounted on the top deck, you could chip over the side or into a container on the lower deck.

 

You won't need any TM because you are mobile, a bit like gully cleaning, you need a blue arrows on the back and some flashing lights, thats about it.

We have one based next to us in Dorset. It is used almost weekly for various jobs along the A-Road and B- roads around the area. It is incredibly efficent they normally have 3 people all with chainsaws and someone at he back dropping the branches off. Then have the chipper behind on a tipper. Its very clever. Weve used it on a couple of sections of trailway. It was just as well it had limb bars where the window would have been on the front.
