I only ask because a lot of craning vids I have seen, ( not saying reg's) have been step cuts.

 

So the reason behind cutting straight thru is you have some forewarning of whats happening re pretension on the lift ??

Impressive stuff, especially those pieces where the brash was all one sided. Did you tie to the hook to set the slings?

 

No I just climbed out there and hung on to the slings, it wasn't too far.

 

The crane was 25t, and we were at full stretch as usual.

 

Tomorrow Ive got to crane 4 poplars....dreading it as Im as rough as hell tonight. If I dont perk up by morning its going to be a struggle.

Exactly Dean. If you step cut and then move out of the way, the crane driver has to put extra tension on to snap it which will result in shock. Or the crane has to go from side to side, resulting in a nasty swing which can also cause shock. Straight through equals smooth and predictable.

30ton crane costs 500quid a day or 350half day round my way from quinto.

Been too long since we last used a crane, always makes me smile how quick you can demolish a tree with one.

 

Think I paid around £600 for a 50 tonner for the day, although only needed it for about 2 hours:thumbup:

 

City crane about £400 I think.
