First pic is of my colleagues attempt at a fire. Took him 2 hours to get it to that stage. No fuel was used (but a splash of chain oil was). My fire (second pic) required no oil of any sort just a sunday paper and 2 fire lighters. And with 30 mins it was raging.

great photos

I haven't had a good bonfire for quite some time but I remember how some on the firm just couldn't get the hang of starting a fire- i.e. loads of petrol etc but no common sense.

I used to find a firelighter coupled with a kindling stack worker almost always

Thought I had a better one than this, burning up after hedgelaying mostly blackthorn, had three fire on a 180 yard stretch all taller than the tractor when pushed up for burning :thumbup1:

First 4 pics are of a Holly, Silver birch and Oak fire on a piece of heathland we are slowly restoring. Next 2 pics are of a Sycamore and Elder fire on an access ramp that is now surfaced. The last 4 pics are of the monster we had today.

 

P.S Is my colleague doin the lunge correctly?

Haha, just had a text from a friend saying the brigade had just come out to tell him to put his fire out or they would. The fire was a little on the large side!! This was about 7pm.

last big fire i had a fire engine turn up i know the crew comander he said i should have known it was you ! i went what the are you doing here ! they had had 4 calls from the downs thinking the site was on fire lol !

That reminds me of the time doing a large charcoal burn and we had told the local Derbyshire fire service of the control burn. A policeman having lunch thought the moors were on fire and called South Yorkshire fire service:001_rolleyes:

 

The 4x4 vehicle was driven at such a speed down the rough track the water tank had almost no water left inside as the lid had opened.:lol::lol:
