Here Here tiz after all a few poxy logs hardly steal of the cetury

When I worked in warehousing, people were sacked for taking a Mars bar, Police were brought in etc, others caught had lofts full of cigarettes, all treated the same. Zero tolerance, all theft is just that. Also a thief, regardless of severity of crime, was escorted from the premises by security, a "walk of shame" if you like. The excuse that it was "only" a Mars bar didnt wash with anyone.

A small company cannot afford to lose money through theft, we all moan about how tight our margins are, why make them tighter. A few logs over a year becomes a couple of truck loads, before you know it, he's syphoning fuel, taking cash on the side, taking your clients for "weekenders", and you go bust.

Huck if you have to have a ctv on and not tell your own workers then their is a lack of trust to start with, not a right or wrong situation but just not my way. As for kit getting mixed up, that can happen so easy, if i am ever working with other climbers then usuaully by the end of a job, krabs are hanging off each others harnesses and groundies have them in their pockets or clipped to things, if it is a total monsoon or getting dark quick then stuff gets chucked into vans and cars and we just want to get home. We sort it out later or i have even seen us holding kit ransom for a laugh or just forgetting about it. There are so many scenarios but we dont know these 2 guys so it is up to them to sort it out.

imo, it doesn't really matter if theft of kit and logs is going on. The fact that you're worried enough about it to post on the internet tells me you should no longer work together. It won't get any better, just rumble on for years and then you'll sack him.

Hi there Its a real shame someone that works for you might want to steal from you

I think before you for the neck you . I think you need take a few steps back and get your facts together in a calm way double check that the other things are really missing . sometimes we can misplace things and find them a while later . I know the inside of Arb trucks look like with all the lads and small space everything always gets everywhere and any were all sorts of stuff goes missing and even lands on different trucks ,and in crazy places in each others climbing bags so really go though everything and make sure they are missing even then if you did not see them go you cannot put complete blame on him unless he admits to it .

If he works for you and is good then a truck load of logs every now and then should be fee for him I would never make a charge to a lad that worked for me a builders sack thats tight. even if I had a splitting business I would be generous to a person working for me and making me money.

But having said that I always like people to be completely honest with me so if you ask him how much he took and he lies then you can say to him that you are disappointed with him not to let it happen again .

When I work for anyone I am always open with them if something has happened or I think I have done something wrong I fess up straight away even if it could get me into trouble so then theres nothing to have to try and hide or feel bad about so I would expect openness with someone that works for me in the same manor.

If on the other hand you do find your fears are confirmed and the lad is taking from you then he must go you will find someone else that will play the game fair and do a good job for you . If you are good to your lads then most of the time they will be good with you too.

All the best

Not at all, I would presume the CCTV is there to catch thieves, if you are not a thief you have nothing to fear.

I have no interest in whether I'm bing film or not, as I'm not a thief.

If you need to tell your staff you have CCTV, so they can "behave" accordingly, you need new staff, IMO.
