My best ever chipper has been an Exenco gravity fed pto chipper on a david brown tractor witha bucket on the front for counter balance ~(it wheelies other wise) it was a fire and forget chipper no stress box, no snedding needed 14 dia hole on a 1 mtr square hopper you could somtimes throw wood from the tree into the hopper. we use to pick up log that take three men to carry and throw it in .. then try to stop it pulling it in to fast cause the clutch on the pto couldnt handle it darn it was the best ever chipper .

Unfortunately it was as dangerous as hell and if you wasnt privvy to its way you could get a nasty kick in the face and any risk assessment would of condemed it to the scrap heap about 5years before it had to

RIP Big Yellow you were the best!

BC1800

Owned by a company I worked for in the states.Perkins engine,no electric switches, feed control by linkage, just a super realiable powerful bullet proof machine.Side by side with a BC1800XL there was no difference in performance between the two, expect the ten years age difference and $20 000.

Why don't the companies "back engineer" chippers to when they were simple and reliable?

Use a Bandit 150 which can take up to 12" of wood, variable feed speeds, double clutch and very little down time. Tows behind the truck and I can reverse it in to just about anywhere. Used a Bandit 65 which I didn't like because it only had 1 feed wheel instesd of 2 like the 150 and this made the wood kick up a lot easier.
